Bartow-Pell Mansion East Coast Greenway Ride
Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM (EDT)
You're invited on a short bike ride to tour the historic Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, then to continue on to the Westchester Bike Summit in New Rochelle, on
Thursday, May 12, 2011.
Meet at 12 noon at the Pelham Bay Park 6 train stop, Westchester Ave. & Bruckner Blvd., by the street-level elevator from train platform. Bring your lunch and $8 if you want to tour the mansion. We'll ride several miles together on the East Coast Greenway (ECG) to the mansion, at 895 Shore Road in Pelham Bay Park, Bronx. After eating our lunch on the grounds and enjoying the formal garden, at 1 pm we will begin a private 45-minute tour of the Greek Revival interior. (This tour has been especially arranged because the mansion is normally open to the public only on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. See www.bartowpellmansionmuseum.org.) At 2 pm we continue north on the ECG for about 6 miles to the New Rochelle City Hall, 515 North Ave., to attend the 3d Annual Westchester Bike Summit beginning at 3 pm. Riding will be at a leisurely pace (10 mph max.). Rain cancels the ride/tour and only pre-registrants will be notified. Please wear a helmet and bring water. Ride leaders: Jackson Wandres and others.
1 - Cycling directly to the starting place or the mansion.
2 - Not going on the mansion tour.
3 - Not cycling from the mansion to New Rochelle.
4 - Not attending the Summit.
5 - Attending the Summit and cycling home (after 7 pm) with the leader (who'll head to Brooklyn) wearing reflective clothing and having flashing lights.
6 - Attending the Summit and returning home via the Metro-North/New Rochelle train station.
7 - Driving to the mansion (car parking available) just to take the mansion tour ($8 adults/$6 seniors and students) or to enjoy the formal garden and grounds (no charge).
